The Shawnee State Women's Soccer Team picked up their first conference win as the scored two goals in the second half to defeat the University of Pikeville 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon. Shawnee improves to 8-3 on the season and 1-1 in conference action. Pikeville falls to 3-5-2 overall and 0-3 in the Mid-South Conference.
Neither team was able to score in the first half. Pikeville took three shots in the first half, but none of which were on goal. Shawnee State tallied nine shots, four of which were on goal but the Bears' couldn't capitalize.
Shawnee State came out in the second half with more intensity and Shawnee's attack was led by MSC scoring leaders junior Brittney Brooks and freshman Allison Nagle. Each player tallied their tenth goal of the season. Brooks scored in the 57th minute on an assist by sophomore Teresa Welch. Nagle scored in the 82nd minute as she beat the defender and goalie for the score.
Shawnee State outshot Pikeville 8-4 in the game.
SSU's freshman Emily Kuehn recorded three saves in the win to improve to 6-2.
Shawnee State travels to No. 1 Lindsey Wilson on Saturday for a conference doubleheader. The women's game is set to begin at 6:00 (EST), with the men's to follow at 8:00 p.m.
