Bears fall in day 1 of SCAD Invitational

In day 1 of the Savannah College of Art and Design Invitational, the Bears fell in both matches to number five ranked Embry-Riddle and the host team SCAD. Embry Riddle defeated the Bears with scores of 13-25, 13-25, and 12-25. SCAD put away three matches with scores of 21-25, 10-25, and 17-25. The Bears now fall to 8-17 on the season.

The Bears collected 27 total kills against Embry-Riddle, while committing 15 errors. 10 of those kills came from set number one, ten from set number two, and seven from the third and final set. Freshman Paige Zelich lead Shawnee with five kills, while Junior Alex Pohl added another four. Sophomore Hannah Gephart set up the Bears with 23 assists and added five digs. Sophomore Kirsti Yates also dug up an additional six hits.

In the second game of the day for Shawnee, the Bears tallied 23 kills against SCAD: nine in set one, seven in set two, and 7 in set three. Senior Shaye Berry lead the girls with eight kills while Pohl added another four. Gephart set up 18 assists, collected two service aces, and added five digs. Yates lead the team with 10 digs.

Today the Bears will take on Bethel College at 9:00 a.m. and University of Mobile at 11:00 a.m.
