COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Shawnee State (2-5, 0-0) snapped its four-match losing streak with a straight-set win over Wilmington (Del.) Saturday afternoon at Alumni Hall.
Set 1
The Bears opened the first set on a 12-5 run behind kills from
Camille McIntosh,
Camille Hall,
Bree Hicks and
Natalie Reida.
Shawnee State managed it's seven-point advantage into the back half of the frame, leading Wilmington 20-13.
Ahead 24-18, Hicks recorded her fourth kill of the frame to win the set, 25-18, and give Shawnee State a 1-0 match lead.
Set 2
The Bears and Wildcats traded points to begin the second frame, with the set tied at 9-9.
Shawnee State began to pull away in the middle of the set with a 9-4 run, highlighted by kills from McIntosh,
Cally Carpenter and
Katelynn Boerger, to take an 18-13 lead over Wilmington.
Despite a late rally from Wilmington that cut the Bears' lead to 21-20, Shawnee State scored four of the final five points to seal the set, 25-22.
Set 3
Similar to the previous frame, the Bears and Wildcats opened the third set evenly, with the teams tied at 9-9.
Shawnee State, again, began to pull away in the middle of the set with a 8-2 run to lead Wilmington 17-11.
Leading 18-15, behind kills from
Kaylee McInnis, Boerger and Reida, Shawnee State scored seven of the final eight points to win the frame, 25-16, and take the match in straight sets.
Bears by the Numbers
Kaylee McInnis led Shawnee State with 13 kills in the match, marking the second time the freshman has reached double figures in her first seven collegiate matches.
Bree Hicks recorded 10 kills. Hicks has finished in double figures in four of the last five matches.
Camille McIntosh efficiently recorded a season-high 10 kills on 17 attempts. Her .412 attack percentage in the match was .245 points higher than her previous single-match best of .167. The junior also paced the Bears with three blocks.
Jalynn West tallied 24 assists, while
Cally Carpenter added 17.
Graci Claxon tied her season high with 17 digs, while her 5.6 digs per set marked a season best.
