FAIRMONT, W. Va. -- Shawnee State (4-7, 0-1) suffered a straight-set conference loss to Fairmont State Friday night at Joe Retton Arena.
Set 1
The match opened evenly, with neither team holding a lead larger than two points until Fairmont State went on a 4-0 run to lead 11-6.
Shawnee State responded with a 4-1 run, highlighted by kills from
Bree Hicks,
Natalie Reida and
Katelynn Boerger, to cut its deficit to 12-10.
The back half of the frame remained closely contested, with Fairmont State closing it out on a 13-12 run to win the set, 25-22.
Set 2
The Falcons opened the second set with a 9-1 advantage before extending their lead to 19-8 midway through the frame.
Fairmont State closed the set on a 6-4 run to win, 25-12, and take a 2-0 match lead.
Set 3
The Falcons jumped out to a 4-0 lead to begin the third set before Shawnee State rallied to cut its deficit to 9-8 behind kills from
Whytney Faulkner,
Camille McIntosh,
Camille Hall and Reida.
Fairmont State went on a 12-6 run through the middle of the set to take a 21-14 lead.
Leading 21-16, the Falcons scored four of the final six points to win the set, 25-18, and take the match in straight sets.
Bears by the Numbers
Kaylee McInnis and
Camille McIntosh co-led the Bears with eight kills apiece, while
Whytney Faulkner added a season-high six. Faulkner also recorded a season-high 14 digs.
Jalynn West finished with 19 assists, while
Cally Carpenter tallied 11.
Camille Hall led the team with three blocks.
Graci Claxon paced Shawnee State with 16 digs and recorded the Bears' only service ace.
