PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- The volleyball program at Shawnee State dropped a nonconference matchup to No. 15 Mount Vernon Nazarene Friday evening, as the Bears fell to the Cougars, 3-0, in a match that was played at Waller Gymnasium in Portsmouth.
Whytney Faulkner and
Camille McIntosh combined for 15 kills to lead SSU's efforts. Senior setters
Reagan Lewis and
Makaela Lovely combined for 28 assists while fellow senior
Megan Steele led the Bears with 13 digs.
Ava Jenkins, the fourth individual in the senior class for Shawnee State, posted nine digs.
Mount Vernon Nazarene was led by Faith Maloney -- a nearby graduate of South Webster High School. Maloney had a game-high 14 kills on a .429 attack percentage to lead MVNU. Evelyn Brown added in 11 kills on a .500 attack percentage while Jaelyn Tang posted 15 digs and Reagan Nuss 33 assists.
Shawnee State (8-4) will play Northwestern Ohio Saturday, Sept. 6 at 2 p.m. at Waller Gymnasium in Portsmouth.
