Cisco matches school record time in 6K; SSU WXC finishes 10th at All-Ohio XC Classic

CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- The women's cross country program at Shawnee State received yet another standout effort from senior harrier Olivia Cisco, who matched her school record time of 22:05 to place eighth, while Jessica Elick finished 40th to lead the Bears to a 10th place finish at the All-Ohio XC Classic Friday evening at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course, which was held on the campus of Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio.

In Cisco, the Bears received the second straight 22:05 mark over a three-week period by the senior, who outran 17 runners from Cedarville -- the No. 9-ranked team in the NCAA Division II ranks from a women's cross country standpoint -- as well as all 13 runners that Ohio Wesleyan, a NCAA Division III program that was receiving votes coming into the All-Ohio XC Classic and finished third from a team perspective overall on Friday, sported.

Continuing to enjoy a splendid season, Cisco's showing is her third top-10 run in as many meets. This showing came in a field of 281 harriers.

"Olivia Cisco put together another great race," Shawnee State Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Conner Flynn said. "Placing top 10 at All-Ohio is special in itself, but also running over 90 seconds faster than 2024 and tying her school record on a tougher course is impressive."

Following Cisco, Jessica Elick and Beth Middleton also enjoyed strong performance. Elick's 40th place finish came off of a new personal best time of 23:25.8, nearly six full seconds faster than her previous personal best. Middleton, who finished 85th overall, lowered her time by over six seconds, dropping her best time to a 24:19.1.

"Jessica Elick and Beth Middleton continue to be a consistent presence and show their value to this team," Flynn said. "Both setting almost 10 second PBs shows their experience and maturity."

Juniper Allen's 98th place finish made it four Bears in the top-100 overall, as Allen ran a 24:39.3 to also put four Bears underneath the 25-minute threshold in the 6K. Riley Colestock's 124th place time of 25:06.3 rounded out the scoring group.

Payton McQuirt (148th, 25:32.5), Sydney Reed (186th, 26:38.1), Hadlee Cisco (198th, 27:00.9), Kirsten Evans (211th, 27:25), Whitney Adams (228th, 28:20), Emma Hurst (252nd, 30:00.7) and Allana Pemberton (276th, 34:04.2) rounded out the field.

As a team, Shawnee State scored 270 points to place 10th.

The Bears will be back in action in two weeks time when Shawnee State's JV runners compete at the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational in Delaware, Ohio Friday, Oct. 3, while the varsity runners will participate in the Live in Lou XC Classic Saturday, Oct. 4 in Louisville, Ky.
