GREENWOOD, Ind. -- Behind their work in the classroom, Shawnee State men's tennis players Zinedine Arva Purbo and Daniel Cristobal Cervantes were each named as College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honorees, as announced by CSC national officials Tuesday afternoon.
The duo, who are each making their first appearance on the list, are represented on the list after a season where both individuals not only finished with GPAs at or above 3.5 but were also the men's tennis program's two best talents from a singles and doubles standpoint. Cristobal Cervantes and Arva Purbo were Shawnee State's top doubles paring and played at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions, respectively, for the Bears during the 2024-25 season.
Cristobal, who holds a 3.65 GPA in business management, has passed over 120 hours of academic credit, while Arva Purbo, who holds a 3.5, has passed over 110 hours of academic credit as an information security major. Cristobal was named a Third-Team All-RSC honoree this past season -- the first time that the letterwinner obtained All-RSC honors.
To be eligible for College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors, a player must be of sophomore or older academic and athletic eligibility, carry at least a 3.5 GPA or above in the classroom, and be in the lineup for 70 percent of an institution's days of competition. Regional competitions, such as ITAs and non-team scored events, do not count.
