SSU women's track and field finishes seventh at RSC Championship Meet

RIO GRANDE, Ohio -- After scoring 56 points on the opening day of the River States Conference's Championship Meet, the women's track and field program completed its journey on the second and final day of the River States Conference's Championship Meet by scoring 37 points on Day 2 to ultimately finish seventh in the RSC Championship field on the women's side with a 93-point total through the two-day championships, which were held at The Stockmeister Track and Field at the University of Rio Grande.

Shawnee State continued to perform well in distance events on Day 2 -- as the Bears got 29 of its 37 points from individual distance events alone.

Olivia Cisco and Jessica Elick led the charge as the duo earned Second-Team All-RSC and Third-Team All-RSC honors, respectively, with their times of 18:17.02 and 19:13.15 in the 5,000 meter run, scoring 14 points between them in that event by themselves. Sydney Reed and Beth Middleton also finished in point-producing positions in the event, notching times of 19:44.31 and 19:48.17 to place seventh and eighth as the Bears claimed 17 tallies in the 5,000 meter run event.

Elick, who also competed in the 1,500 meter run, was Shawnee State's lead representative in that event -- as the sophomore ran a 5:10.14 to place fourth while Kirsten Evans and Amanda Salmons added times of 5:11.86 and 5:22 to finish fifth and seventh, notching another 11 points for the Bears in the 1,500 meters. Evans' eighth place finish in the 800 meter run, which came via a 2:29..15, rounded out the distance running points on the day for Shawnee State.

In field events, Jaina Bailey added in four points with a 106-foot, seven-inch discus throw to collect sixth, then added in a 34-foot, six-and-a-half inch shot put to place eighth. Ivy Gentry nabbed a 31-foot, one-half inch triple jump to place seventh while collecting two points through her own efforts.

The 4-by-400 meter relay quartet of Salmons, Evans, Elick and Cisco rounded out SSU's point-producing efforts, as the veteran runners combined for a seventh-place finish in that event to conclude Shawnee State's two-day journey.

Between Shawnee State's Day 1 and Day 2 results, the Bears collected five Second-Team All-RSC and three Third-Team All-RSC performances as a group. Day 1 results can be found at https://www.ssubears.com/sports/wtrack-out/2024-25/releases/20250425yivfym.

"The women's team battled this weekend," Conner Flynn, Director of Cross Country and Track and Field at Shawnee State, said. "The River States Conference is deep on the women's side, as the results show, and we had many impressive performances. I'm excited for the development of this program. We have a young team on both the women's and men's side, and continue to grow in different areas."
