PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- The men's tennis program celebrated its lone senior -- Shawnee State multi-year talent and Dayton metro area native Adam Stanley -- Sunday afternoon to close the weekend in a Senior Day match against Brescia, while also playing Oakland City Saturday afternoon.
On both days, Shawnee State was led by its top two men's tennis hands -- Zinedine Arva Purbo and Daniel Cristobal Cervantes. Arva Purbo and Cristobal battled Oakland City's top men's doubles unit of Andres Perez Perez and Nelson Ramos to a 6-3 match, an impressive battle considering that Perez Perez and Ramos are the No. 3-ranked doubles unit in the entire NAIA realm. The duo also lost by the same 6-3 margin to Brescia's Arthur Happel and Matthew Parsons.
The duo then continued their strong play down the order -- as Cristobal dropped his match at No. 2 singles to Oakland City's Alejo Chlpac but in a competitive 6-4, 6-3 decision on Saturday, while Arva Purbo (No. 1) and Cristobal (No. 3) dropped stout matches to Brescia's Braedon Christie (7-5, 6-3) and Happel (6-4, 7-6), respectively.
Stanley, an energetic tennis talent, has been a part of the men's tennis program for two seasons. The senior holds a GPA in good standing and has worked his way into being a regular member of the top six tennis players in the lineup from a singles and doubles standpoint.
