CLEVELAND, Tenn. -- The men's track and field program at Shawnee State was again competitive on the opening day of competition Friday at the Lee Athletics Fast Break Invite, as Isaiah Lanoy's personal best time of 14:51.86 in the 5,000 meter run and a six-foot, six-inch jump by Eli Adkins led the Bears to begin competition at the Cleveland, Tenn.-based event, which was held at the Ray Conn Sports Complex on Friday evening at Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn.
Lanoy, who competed in the 5,000 for the second time from an outdoor standpoint in 2025, set an overall personal best of nearly four seconds in the event, having set his previous PB in the event at the 2025 River States Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.
In posting his 14:51.86, Lanoy finished 29th in the 89-runner field -- outrunning four NCAA Division I runners from Georgia Tech, Dayton and Lipscomb as well as 37 NCAA Division II runners. Lanoy's 5,000 meter run time ranks inside the NAIA National Top-25 (24th) following Friday's event at Lee.
"Isaiah set a nice personal best in the 5,000 meter run," Shawnee State Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Conner Flynn said. "He battled among great competition and it will benefit him for his steeplechase performances ahead."
Adkins, who cleared six feet, six inches on his first attempt at that mark, beat five NCAA Division II competitors in the event in the process. Adkins continues to flirt with NAIA National Standard territory as the freshman sits just two-and-a-half inches away from a NAIA National 'B' Standard mark.
"Eli has been consistent all year, and we know that he is capable of the standard on the right day," Flynn said.
Behind the duo, Trevor Lanoy ran a time of 15:22.98 in the 5,000 to finish 52nd, while Alan Austin claimed sixth in the shot put, posting a 46-foot, six-and-three-quarters inch throw to post a throw that was better than 11 NCAA Division II competitors.
Dylan French and Kaiden Lanoy, who closed out the evening in the 10,000 meter run, finished 31st (31:50.67) and 32nd (31:50.91) in the 10K, respectively in a 49-runner field. The duo, who posted the 29th and 30th fastest 10,000 meter run times in the NAIA in the event this season with their performances, bettered 11 NCAA Division II runners and a NCAA Division I runner from Dayton in the event.
