MARIETTA, Ohio -- The women's track and field program finished off its run at the two-day River States Conference Championships by getting two River States Conference Runner-Up finishes from Shawnee State thrower Jaina Bailey and Shawnee State distance runner Olivia Cisco, as the pair combined to collect two second-place finishes on the second and final day of the RSC Championship Meet, which was held Saturday at the Dyson Baudo Recreation Center in Marietta.
Bailey, who launched a 48-foot, eight-inch weight throw, was one of only two individuals to exceed the 48-foot mark in the 19-thrower women's field, while Cisco posted her second RSC Runner-Up finish in as many days, continuing to build on what has been a fantastic career by running a 10:28.97 for a new personal best that sat less than 1.3 seconds off of a winning conference championship time in the event.
Behind the main point-scoring duo, Jessica Elick and Kirsten Evans were big for Shawnee State on Day 2 as well, with Elick finishing third in the one mile (5:26.95) and fourth in the 800 meter run (2:31.28) to set personal bests and score 11 points on her own for Shawnee State's camp. Evans, meanwhile, added in nine points herself -- placing third in the 1,000 meter run with a personal best time of 3:13.62 and then adding in a fifth place run with a 5:39.76 in the one mile.
Fourth seventh-place finishes in the points followed Elick's and Evans' runs -- with the headliner being Natalie Brammer's second NAIA National 'B' Standard time in the 3,000 meter racewalk as Brammer nabbed an 18:16.59 to hit the 'B' mark for the second time during the 2024-25 season. Makaela Lovely's high jump (four-foot, eight-and-three-quarters inch), Ivy Gentry's triple jump (29 feet, 11-and-a-half inches) and Amanda Salmons' 800 meter run (2:34.26) also placed in the points, as well.
Beth Middleton accumulated the last point for Shawnee State on Day 2 -- finishing eighth with an 11:30.99 in the 3,000 meter run to boot.
Salmons (ninth, 1,000 meter run) and Sydney Reed (10th, 3,000 meter run) finished just outside the points in two additional performances that were respectable against conference competition in their own right.
"I'm happy with the effort of our women, despite being short handed," Shawnee State Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Conner Flynn said. "The three Runner-Up finishes from (Olivia) Cisco, and Jaina (Bailey) in the weight throw were great to see. (Kirsten) Evans and (Jessica) Elick both also showed up with purpose and took home bests of their own."
Cisco and Brammer will each advance to the NAIA Women's Indoor Track and Field National Championship Meet, which will be held from Feb. 27 to March 1 in Gainesville, Fla. For updates on that event, visit www.ssubears.com or the below social media accounts.
