BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- Behind a fantastic weekend that saw
De-Nicha Lewis post three NAIA provisional cut times — including a top-15 NAIA national time in the 50 yard freestyle — the senior from Trinidad and Tobago was named as the Mid-South Conference's Women's Swimmer of the Week, as announced by Mid-South Conference officials Monday afternoon.
Lewis was tremendous all weekend, setting three NAIA provisional cuts and matching the 11th-fastest time in the NAIA this season with her provisional cut in the 50 yard freestyle. Lewis also swam the fastest leg of any swimmer at the Wooster Invitational in the 200 yard medley relay, swimming a 24.18 in that event as the last leg on her squad.
In all, Lewis posted five top-three finishes between individual events (50, 100, and 200 yard freestyles) as well as helping Shawnee State place second in the 200 yard freestyle relay and third in the 200 yard medley relay. The senior, who ultimately competed in seven different events between individual and relay showings, helped contribute to 264 of the Bears' 510 points in the meet.
