CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- Top-five finishes by Jaina Bailey, Faith Kuhn and Makaela Lovely in field events -- with personal bests from Bailey, Kuhn, Tashawna Young and Natalie Brammer factored into the mix -- led a Shawnee State women's track and field program that collected 20 points at the Cedarville Collegiate Invitational Friday in Cedarville, Ohio.
Bailey, who posted a 42-foot, one-and-a-quarter inch throw in the weight throw, finished third -- while Kuhn added in a fifth place finish with a 40-foot, 11-inch mark and Young an eighth-place mark with a 31-foot, three-and-a-quarter inch throw. The trio combined for 11 points on their own in that event as a result, with Kuhn and Young setting personal best throws as a result of their efforts.
Continuing her progression as a women's thrower, Bailey then added an additional point in the shot put -- as the Rock Hill High School graduate collected a 32-foot, nine-inch mark to set a new personal best as well.
Lovely, who cleared four feet, seven-and-three-quarters inches in the high jump, and Ivy Gentry, who nabbed a 15-foot, four-and-a-quarter inch long jump, collected the remaining eight points combined between their performances in jumping events.
In a deep one mile run field, Jessica Elick added in a strong finish -- posting a ninth-place run of 5:35.61 in her first indoor meet of the season for Shawnee State in a 27-runner field, just one spot short of a point position. Brammer's personal best of 13:01.43 in the 3,000 meter run rounded out the main contributors.
"It was great to have Jessica Elick back for the women's team," Shawnee State Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Conner Flynn said. "She is a significant contributor to their success, so having her return and make her debut is exciting. The women's throws squad had many personal bests, which shows their development."
