HUNTINGTON, W. Va. -- The men's indoor track and field squad may not consist of all-everything standout Aiden Kammler anymore.
But if there's one thing that many know about Shawnee State, it's how the cross country and track and field programs always find a way to reload -- not rebuild.
In his second indoor meet of the 2024-25 season, Isaiah Lanoy won the men's 800 meter run (1:58.49) and finished fourth in the one mile (4:19.43) en route to leading Shawnee State in both events.
Lanoy, who posted personal bests in two different events Saturday, led a Shawnee State men's indoor track and field squad that ultimately set 10 personal bests and posted two school records in the Bears' second meet of the 2024-25 indoor track and field season at the Marshall Alumni Classic, which was held at the Chris Cline Athletic Complex in Huntington, W. Va. Saturday evening.
A NAIA National Qualifier and 2024 NAIA National Championship participant in the 3,000 meter outdoor steeplechase to begin his college career, Isaiah Lanoy continues to rise -- as the entrenched harrier was the only one of the nine runners to compete in the 800 meter run that posted a time under two minutes in the event.
Lanoy then followed that up by beating 11 NCAA Division I runners in the one mile, ultimately finishing fourth in a 36-participant field where Lanoy set a time inside the NAIA National Top 20 from an indoor perspective in the one mile.
"Isaiah had a great day," Shawnee State Director of Cross Country and Track and Field Conner Flynn said. "It was great to see him pick up where he left off. He's had a special year so far, and I'm excited to see what he can accomplish this spring."
Dylan French, who was among those that set a personal best, was the sixth and final runner in the 36-member one mile to set a time under the 4:20 mark, posting a 4:19.81 to also post a NAIA National Top 20 time in the one mile as well.
Behind Isaiah Lanoy and French, Isaiah's brothers, Trevor and Kaiden Lanoy, finished third (2:04.83) and fourth (2:06.40) in the 800 meter run and added in 12th and 14th place finishes in the one mile (4:31.36 and 4:33.70), respectively. Kaiden's 4:33.70 in the one mile was also a personal best.
In additional track events, Garrett Carver won the 5,000 meter run, posting a 16:14.66 to run a personal best in the meet, while Luke Rader and Matthew Rauch each set a personal best in the 60 meter hurdles, finishing fifth and sixth respectively. Rader posted his best time of 8.80 in the finals to finish fifth, while Rauch, who ran his personal best of 8.92 in the prelims to qualify alongside Rader in the finals, finished sixth with a 9.02.
Freshman talent Cody Hesler, who has been lauded early on as a talent to watch in the future, proved that straightaway at the Marshall Alumni Classic. First, Hesler set a school record in the 400 meter dash -- posting a 51.26 to finish sixth in that event. Then, Hesler teamed up with Rader, Isaiah Lanoy, and Kaiden Lanoy to post a new school standard in the men's 4-by-400 meter relay, as the quartet collected a 3:34.27 for a top-50 NAIA 4-by-400 relay time to boot.
"Cody having a hand in two school records is a good day," Flynn said. "He has a bright future ahead."
In field events, Rader's fourth place long jump (21 feet, 10-and-three-quarters inches), Eli Adkins' fifth-place high jump (six feet, three-quarters-of-an-inch) and Alan Austin's sixth-place shot put (45 feet, four-and-a-quarter inches) led Shawnee State.
"I am happy with the way the men battled in their respective events," Flynn said. "Having a young team, it was great to see how they adapt in their first collegiate meet."
