GEORGETOWN, Ky. -- While Vanessa Akuaku's run in the ITA-NAIA Southeast Regional Championships came to an end Saturday afternoon, the sophomore's standout play continued all the way throughout as Akuaku dropped a competitive 3-6, 3-6 match to Midway (Ky.)'s Agustina Olivero in the Round of 16 at the ITA-NAIA SE Regionals, which was at the Lackey Tennis Center in Georgetown, Ky.
In her run to the Round of 16, Akuaku took 24 of 26 games combined in her matches against Johnson (Tenn.)'s Caroline Rhoton and Georgetown (Ky.)'s Lindsey Rikkerink. Akuaku won a total of 30 games overall over her three days of competition.

Akuaku, a First-Team All-River States Conference recipient in women's tennis during the 2023-24 season, along with the Shawnee State women's tennis program, will be back in action Saturday, Oct. 5 at 11 a.m. when the Bears take on NCAA Division III Hanover (Ind.) in a road matchup. The men's tennis program will play the same opponent at the same time in a road match of their own.
