SSU Super Smash Bros. defeats Saint Francis (Ind.), SSU RL defeats UNC-Greensboro; SSU LoL, Overwatch teams fall to Manchester, Minnesota State

The Shawnee State Esports program put together another strong week of work -- as the Shawnee State Super Smash Bros. took its first-ever Great Lakes Esports Conference match over Saint Francis (Ind.) while the Shawnee State Rocket League squad scored an impressive 3-0 victory over UNC-Greensboro to head up four competitive showings by the program over the last week.

Saturday, Sept. 14 -- Shawnee State 2, Saint Francis (Ind.) 0, GLEC Super Smash Bros.

In straight sets, the Shawnee State Super Smash Bros. squad was able to collect a 2-0 victory over Saint Francis (Ind.) in the first-ever Great Lakes Esports Conference match in SSU Esports history, winning 8-0 and 2-0 in sets one and two, respectively to go to 2-0 overall.

The first set was dominated by the strong play of Sam Patterson (Gamertag: SAMAREX), who took 10 stocks on his own including a six-stock streak at one point. The second set, meanwhile, was controlled by Josh Addy-Frazier (Gamertag: BBQSAUSE), who collected six stocks and a four-stock streak en route to a relatively dominant win.

Ultimately, the duo, along with Chris Mowery (Gamertag: SPACEMINER), Hendrix Myers (Gamertag: Henny) and Chloe Compton (Gamertag: RAINYEMBERS) were all critical in the final outcome -- as the quintet combined to nab 23 stocks Saturday.

Wednesday, Sept. 17 -- Shawnee State 3, UNC-Greensboro 0, NACE Rocket League (7-1, 6-2, 11-1)

 

In a dominating effort once again, the Shawnee State Rocket League squad claimed a 3-0 victory over the UNC-Greensboro Rocket League squad to move its own record to 2-0.

Sean Downard (Gamertag: Tacostash84) collected another great effort, posting 10 goals and seven assists to go along with a save and notching 2,429 points in all as a result. Downard posted six goals and three assists alone in Shawnee State's 11-1 victory over UNC-Greensboro to clinch the third set, posting 1,143 points in the third set alone.

Blade Taylor (Gamertag: GZ SlaYeR) added in seven goals, three saves and two assists while tallying 1,576 points, and Dyllan DeBruyne (Gamertag: Duckyuckyy) nabbed 1,731 points after posting six goals, seven assists and two saves in another fantastic effort from the terrific Rocket League trio.

The group also celebrated appropriately -- Celebration Dance -- PAWS UP!

The Shawnee State League of Legends unit dropped a 2-0 decision to Manchester (Ind.) while the Shawnee State Overwatch squad fell to Minnesota State, 3-0, in additional action.
