Smash Bros. Topples Purdue Fort Wayne

In an exciting NACE season win, SSU Smash Bros. swept Purdue Fort Wayne in a clash of the titans. Both teams were undefeated entering the match, which ended with the Bears' win streak untouched.

Game one was a long road, beginning with Simon Rhodes (gamertag: Bird_) taking one stock as Wolf before falling. He was followed by Michael Clark (gamertag: Smooglegad), whose King K Rool play claimed four stocks from the opposing side before being eliminated. Three of those stocks were in succession, without losing a stock of his own between them. Ethan Knoff (gamertag: Strakh) entered third for the Bears, claiming two stocks as Mr. Game and Watch. This set the stage for Chris Mowery (gamertag: Spaceminer) to bring his Toon Link play to the field. The sophomore claimed the remaining five stocks and the first win of the set. Like his teammate, Mowery had a three-stock streak during the first game.

Game two started in a similar fashion to the first. Rhodes's Wolf claimed the first stock in favor of the Bears before falling. Clark's King K Rool returned, taking five more stocks before being eliminated. The freshman totaled nine stocks for the day. Knoff returned on Mr. Game and Watch, claiming one more stock for the Bears. Mowery anchored for the squad again. The Toon Link player took the remaining five stocks from Purdue Fort Wayne in a five-stock streak. He totaled a whopping ten stocks for this match.

The Bears are now the only undefeated team in their NACE conference. They end season play with a match against Ashland on March 14. The action starts at 7:00.
