In an impressive performance, the Shawnee State women's tennis program posted a 5-4 victory over Webster (Mo.) Wednesday evening to conclude matters over its Spring Break affairs around the St. Louis, Mo. area behind standout showings from Vanessa Akauku, Lacey Urban, Lexy Urban and Antonia Ilea.

Highlights -- Webster (Mo.)

Against Webster (Mo.), Lacey and Lexy Urban continued to showcase their impressive skillset at No. 1 doubles, defeating Webster's No. 1 doubles duo of Maddie Mena and Bailey Higgins, 8-6. Mena and Higgins have been multi-time First-Team All-St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SILAC) honorees at the NCAA Division III level.

Vanessa Akauku and Antonia Ilea added in 8-6 victories themselves over Bailey Chitwood and Navone Armstrong at No. 2 doubles, clinching a winning result for SSU on the doubles side of the coin.

In singles play, Shawnee State continued showcasing positive results as Akauku notched a 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Higgins at No. 1 singles, with Ilea defeating Mena 6-2, 7-5 at No. 3 singles and Lexy Urban defeating Bailee Pineda 6-0, 7-5 at No. 4 singles to seal the match victory.

Even in the losses in individual matches that SSU took, the Bears were competitive -- as evidenced by Lacey Urban's 6-2 victory over Chitwood in the second set before ultimately falling 1-6, 6-2, 5-10 and Claire Favre's performance against Chloe Daughtry at No. 6 singles, where Favre lost a tight 4-6, 3-6 decision.

The Shawnee State women's tennis program gets back to action with a 2 p.m. matchup against former conference foe Pikeville (Ky.) Sunday afternoon at the Daehler Tennis Courts.
