SSU women's tennis drop contests to Cedarville, Thomas More

The women's tennis program at Shawnee State again showcased flashes of brillance in a pair of contests against Cedarville and Thomas More (Ky.) before ultimately falling in both matches by 7-0 and 6-1 margins, respectively.

Highlights -- Cedarville

  • Shawnee State again got strong efforts from the Urban sisters, as Lacey Urban, playing at No. 2 singles, took Cedarville's Abby Totten to the brink before falling 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 0-1 (10-12) in a thrilling and high-level match where Lacey Urban put a scare in the former Second-Team All-Great Midwest Conference honoree. Lexy Urban, meanwhile, posted a competitive effort of her own at No. 4 singles, losing by a scant 7-5, 6-2 decision to Calista Bobula.
  • McKenzie Harman and Brooklyn Foose added in competitive showings at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, with Harman dropping a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Susannah Prince and Foose taking three points in the opening set against Faith Monson before dropping both sets by 6-3, 6-0 counts.

Highlights -- Thomas More

  • Foose continued to build on her play from earlier in the day, claiming Shawnee State's lone victory with a 7-5, 6-1 triumph over Thomas More's Hallie Kriege at No. 6 singles. She also combined with Vanessa Akuaka at No. 3 doubles to produce a competitive match against Thomas More's Sydney Johnson and Noelia Martinez Garcia before falling, 6-3.
  • Akuaka, at No. 1 singles, took three games over Thomas More's No. 1 singles talent, Alexis Covington, in the first set before ultimately falling by margins of 6-3, 6-1. Covington was a Second-Team All-Mid-South Conference honoree in 2023, Thomas More's final season in NAIA before moving to the NCAA Division II realm.
  • Lacey Urban also took two games in the first set of No. 2 singles action against Thomas More's Dakota Schroeder, who was also a Second-Team All-Mid-South Conference honoree in 2023, before falling by a 6-2, 6-1 count at the slot.
