Game Recap: eSports |

Overwatch Swept by Akron

This past Tuesday night the Shawnee State Overwatch team would take on the tough Akron Zips for this week's NACE match. While the Bears showed signs of life throughout the match, Akron would come out victorious in the end.

Game one started the series on the map Busan. Akron started the series off strong, quickly sweeping the Bears in an 0 – 2 fashion. While there were flashes of great teamwork, the Bears still fell in the end. Ben Palmieri (gamertag: Bas1lisk) and Gavin Jones (gamertag: Zephyr) would lead the Bears in eliminations at 4. Palmieri would also lead in damage at 4,242 with Logan Betz (gamertag: DotBetz) leading in healing at 7,090.

Game two would be a showing of the map King's Row. The first round showed Akron what the Bears could do when they captured the last point with time left on the clock. Akron quickly fired back and captured the final point with a whopping 4 minutes left on the clock. This time difference is eventually what separated the Bears from taking the victory as Akron immediately won the overtime. Zach Smith (gamertag: zsmitty2020) would lead the Bears this game in both eliminations and damage with 29 and 17,385, respectively. Betz would lead once again in healing with 18,480 healing.

The third and final game of the series took the two teams to Suravasa where Akron would secure the overall victory against the Bears. While the first point came down to the final few percentages, Akron would still nudge out the Bears. Akron then took the final 2 points to end the night. Gaberiel Martinson (gamertag: Happy) and Smith would tie for most eliminations at 9 with Smith also taking most damage at 5,977. Betz would again take the team's most healing with 10,090.

Tune in next Tuesday to watch the SSU Overwatch team in another NACE match. Game time is 7:00 PM.
