Shawnee State welcomed the Red Wolves of Indiana University East for the first River States Conference action this season. The Bears fought till the very end but the Red Wolves topped SSU 3-0 in straight sets.
Set number one, saw multiple kills from Haidyn Wamsely, Bethany Cooling, and Olivia Fliehman. The two teams battled back and forth and found themselves knotted at 11. IU East would then go on a 14-2 run and claim the first set 25-13. The second set started, and the teams were in a battle from the first serve. They traded points, and neither team gained an advantage over the other set.
In the second set, SSU got kills from Kylee Barney Faith Kuhn, and Fliehman, while receiving multiple digs from Ava Jenkins and Megan Steel. The Bears had the Red Wolves towards the end of set two, but the Red Wolves stunned SSU and took the set 27-25. The third set saw much of the same as the first two sets and was a battle till the very end. IU East grabbed the set win 25-21 and the 3-0 win over the Bears.
The Bears will be back in action next Tuesday, September 19, at 7 PM as they welcome Alice Llyod College as they will face up in another RSC matchup.
