Esports Recap: February 27 - March 5

NACE Rocket League vs. University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire 3 – 0 W

This February 27 match was a clean sweep for the Bears. Game one was a dominant 3 – 2 win, where each player on the SSU side scored one goal. Dyllan DeBruyne (gamertag: DuckWorth) earned two assists to go with his goal, while Zach Ellis (gamertag: FireRaptor) was credited with the only save.

Game two the Bears extended their lead with a comfortable 4 – 0 win. Two goals were credited to DeBruyne, with Ellis and Fiscus earning one each. Top assists went to Ellis with two. Game three was a stress-free 5 – 2 win for the Bears. Ellis showed his prowess on the field and earned four of the team's goals himself. The other goal went to DeBruyne. Both DeBruyne and Fiscus earned two assists each.  

NACE Overwatch vs. Kansas University 2 – 3 L

This loss was a heartbreaker for the Bears on February 28. After taking map one on Nepal, the squad was defeated in the second game on King's Row. During game two, Gavin Jones (gamertag: Zephyr) and Zach Smith (gamertag: zsmitty2020) tied for top eliminations on the SSU side with 28 each. Noah Hall (gamertag: CNNNFDDR) earned top damage for the squad with 12,742. Game three was another win for the Bears on Circuit Royal, with Benjamin Palmieri (gamertag: Bas1lisk) taking top eliminations at 20. Top assists went to Hallie Harris (gamertag: Panchiko), who aided her teammates 19 times.

Game four was a tough loss on New Queen Street. Palmieri once again led the team on eliminations with 23, while Harris claimed top assists at 22. Hall once again dealt the most damage, dishing out 10,385 to his opponents. The final game took the team to Lijiang Tower, where they were defeated despite their best efforts. Hall claimed top spots in both eliminations and damage this game, dealing 13,535 damage over 26 eliminations. Harris earned top assists again with 24 to her credit. Smith played smart, allowing him to fall the least amount overall with only 8 deaths.

NACE Super Smash Bros. vs. Michigan Tech 2 – 1 W

This match on March 2 was a reverse sweep for the Bears. Game one was led by senior Benjamin Moushey (gamertag: Waywardness) on Zelda, who claimed two stocks before being eliminated. He was followed by fellow senior Mark Schueler (gamertag: Atlas) who earned two stocks of his own as Pac Man. Christopher Mowery (gamertag: SpaceMiner) entered third as Toon Link, claiming four stocks before falling. Desmond Craft (gamertag: EchoForce) anchored for the squad but only took two stocks before falling to the Huskies.

Game two was a fresh start for the Bears. Moushey returned as Zelda, claiming three more stocks before being eliminated. Schueler entered second once more as Pac Man, claiming four stocks before falling. Seth Schott (gamertag: clowntimbs) took three before passing the responsibility to Mowery's Toon Link. The freshman claimed the last two stocks and won SSU the second game.

The final game saw Schueler lead the charge with four stocks claimed. Moushey entered second with three of his own before being defeated. Schott entered third, claiming one last stock for the road. Mowery anchored once more, claiming the remaining four stocks from the Huskies to complete the reverse sweep.

cLoL League of Legends vs. Iowa State University 0 – 2 L

League of Legends struggled against Iowa State University in this match on March 4. Game one was a tough 25 minute loss where the Bears nabbed 16 eliminations while conceding a total of 23 to their opponents. Top eliminations for the squad went to Aaron Allen (gamertag: Turtlestrike) with seven as Elise. Chase Minor (gamertag: ArcticWolf) earned top assists as Annie, with seven to his credit, followed closely by Jared Robb (gamertag: Aatreon) who held 5. Thomas de Graauw (gamertag: Melegim) earned top creep score per minute on the team with an average of 6.9 in game one.

The Bears fell once again in game two. This 28-minute game saw 12 eliminations from SSU, with Iowa earning 28. Zach Farrar (gamertag: Cpt Wiley) earned top eliminations as Aphelios at six, while Minor once again claimed seven assists to top the board as Morgana. De Graauw dealt 33% of the squad's damage, totaling 19,476 to his name.
