Esports has been hard at work as the season continues. The Mid-South Conference season has concluded, and teams compete in post-season play.
NACE Rocket League vs. Quinnipiac University 3 – 0 W
This February 6 match was a clean sweep for the Bears. Game one was a quick 3 – 0 win, where each member of the squad earned one goal. Zach Ellis (gamertag: FireRaptor) earned two assists, while PJ Fiscus (gamertag: Fisci25) earned one of his own. Game two was closer, with the Bears taking the win 3 – 2. Once again, every player on the SSU side earned one goal each, with Ellis nabbing two assists. Dyllan DeBruyne (gamertag: DuckWorth) earned one assist in this game.
Game three was a dominating 4 – 1 win, with Ellis and DeBruyne nabbing two goals each, while Fiscus played a more supportive role with one assist, and one save. The squad maintained control of the ball for well over half of the match, allowing them ample opportunities to claim the win.
MSC League of Legends vs. University of the Cumberlands 2 – 0 W
The Bears earned a second sweep on February 6 as League of Legends went 2 – 0 over University of the Cumberlands. Game one was a 22-minute win for the squad, who totaled 18 eliminations; three times as many total eliminations as they conceded to their opponents. Nine of those eliminations went to Jared Robb (gamertag: Aatreon), who was followed closely on the board by Zach Farrar (gamertag: Cpt Wiley) at seven. Game two was another dominating win from the Bears, this time in 23 minutes. The unit totaled 29 eliminations, earning over double the 12 they conceded. Farrar led the team in eliminations this time, with eleven to his name. Following him was teammate Aaron Allen (gamertag: Turtlestrike) with nine. Top assists went to Ethan Popp (gamertag: LegendaryEtan) with fourteen, followed closely by Chase Minor (gamertag: ArcticWolf) with thirteen.
NACE Call of Duty vs. Cumberland University 2 – 3 L
The Bears faced Cumberland in this tough loss from February 8. Game one was a 250 – 168 Hardpoint win on Mercado Las Almas. Hayden Walters (gamertag: Killer) warned top eliminations for the squad with 25, followed by Austin Clark (gamertag: AyeC) with 24. Nicholas Byers (gamertag: Menace) spent the most time on the objective overall with 1:43 of hill time. Game two was an unfortunate 6 – 5 loss in Search and Destroy on Breenbergh Hotel. Kevin Ralph (gamertag: WhiteChicken) led the squad in eliminations with 8. Byers played the objective, with four plants to his credit.
Game three took the unit to a 3 – 1 win in Control on Breenbergh Hotel. Clark earned an exciting 31 eliminations to lead the Bears board, allowing Ralph to capture the most tiers for the squad at four. Walters earned the most assists among the squad with eight, followed closely by Byers at six. Game four was a tough 80 – 250 loss for the squad, this time playing Hardpoint on Al Bagra Fortress. Clark led the squad in eliminations once more, this time with fifteen. He was closely followed by all three teammates; Ralph held fourteen, Walters nabbed thirteen and Byers claimed eleven. The squad once again fell in their final-stand fifth game, with a heartbreaking 6 – 5 Search and Destroy on Embassy.

cLoL League of Legends vs. University of Chicago 1 – 2 L
This match on February 11 was a tough one on the League of Legends squad. Game one was a hard-fought 31-minute loss where they earned 20 total eliminations, falling short of the 33 claimed by Chicago. Farrar led the unit in personal eliminations, with seven. He was followed by Thomas de Graauw (gamertag: Melegim) with five. Allen led in assists, supporting his teammates during twelve eliminations.
Game two was a decisive win for the squad, with 30 overall eliminations credited to the Bears, while they only conceded six. Farrar once again claimed the highest personal total, with ten, while also emerging undefeated with 0 deaths. Minor's supportive play shown with twenty assists credited to him, followed by de Graauw and Allen who both aided in fifteen eliminations. The final game was tough for the unit, who had the decisive loss returned to them. They claimed 8 total eliminations, compared to Chicago's 31. Half of the Bears' eliminations were earned by Robb, while Minor earned four assists of his own.
NACE Rocket League vs. Siena Heights University 2 – 3 L
This was a heartbreaking match for SSU as they fell on February 13. Game one was a 2 – 1 win for the Bears, with Ellis and DeBruyne taking one goal each, with Fiscus playing the supportive role with one assist and two saves. Game two was another 2 – 1 win, with Ellis and DeBruyne once again earning one goal each, while Fiscus went on the offensive and demolished opposing cars four times in two minutes. Game three was an overtime 4 – 3 loss for the squad, where all three SSU players earned one goal each. DeBruyne played the supporting role with two assists. Fiscus played offensively once again, with key demolitions allowing for two goals to be scored.
Game four was a tough 4 – 1 loss for the unit. Ellis nabbed the only goal from the Bears, assisted by DeBruyne. Fiscus played the defensive, credited with three saves. The final game was one last 4 – 2 loss. DeBruyne and Fiscus each scored one goal, with Ellis earning an assist. DeBruyne earned three demolitions throughout the game as well.
Rocket League is back on February 27 with a NACE match against Wisconsin-Eau Claire beginning at 7:00.
MSC League of Legends vs. University of Pikeville 0 – 2 L
SSU League of Legends was knocked out of MSC playoffs at third place in this unfortunate loss on February 13. Game one was a short 23-minute loss, where the unit totaled 6 eliminations, compared to 15 from the Pikeville Bears. Robb earned over half of the eliminations, with four to his credit. Popp held the most assists, with three.
Game two was a hard-fought 30-minute loss, where the SSU squad held 9 total eliminations, which was doubled by the Pikeville Bears. Allen led the board for eliminations—his personal total of six was the most out of either side. Minor held top assists on the Shawnee State side with five.
SSU League of Legends will return on February 25 for a cLoL match against Michigan State University. The action begins at 4:00.
