Overwatch Sweeps ABC Week Four

Shawnee State Overwatch played in week four of the ABC tournament on Saturday. They went 2-0, beating both California State University Long Beach Blue and Texas A&M Gray. With this they bring their Swiss Stage record to 4-4.

Shawnee State vs California State University Long Beach 3-1 W

Map one of the first series was on Illios. The Bears started off strong by getting a sweep of the map and taking it 2-0. Elimination leaders for the squad were DPS duo Ben Palmieri (gamertag: Bas1lisk) with 19 and Gavin Jones (gamertag: Zephyr) with 18. Logan Betz (gamertag: DotBetz) had the most healing in the game with 8,621.

Map two was on Eichenwalde where it was a little closer, but carrying the momentum from a solid defense into a strong attack allowed the Bears to take it 3-2. Once again Palmieri led the eliminations with 31 followed by Gabe Martinson (gamertag: Happy) with 29. Martinson also had the highest damage in the match with 14,070 dealt and blocking 19,427.

Map three took place on Suravasa, where the Sharks showed that they were not going down without a fight. In back-and-forth fashion, the Sharks gained momentum to stop the sweep and defeat the Bears 2-3. Palmieri led the team in eliminations with 19, followed by Martinson with 18. Gwendolyn Bowman (gamertag: Obama) had the most assists with 21.

The final map of the series was a back-and-forth brawl on Colosseo that came down to an overtime fight. The Bears came out victorious, closing the map 1-0 and taking the series 3-1. Palmieri for the fourth time lead the Bears in eliminations with 28 followed by Martinson with 25. Palmieri had the most damage in the game with 11,515.

Shawnee State vs. Texas A&M 3-0 W

The Bears finished the night off with a well-earned 3-0 sweep of Texas A&M. 

Game one took the two teams to Lijiang Tower, where the Bears made a statement by sweeping Texas A&M for the two capture points. This game showed a new face for the Bears in Jordan Bryan (gamertag: Sivis), who led the squad in both eliminations and damage. The freshman held 27 and 10,394, respectively. Notably, Bryan would also mitigate 5,838 damage. Betz would once again lead the Bears in healing with 11,666.

Game two saw the Bears go to the New York inspired map, Midtown. This map would show the Bears first stopping A&M relatively short on defense and would quickly take the game on offense to take the overall game. Palmieri would lead the Bears in both eliminations and damage with 31 and 9,653 respectively. Betz again led the Bears in healing with an astounding 12,460.

The final game was a bit closer but the Bears would edge out A&M 3-1 on the map Suravasa. Texas A&M strugguled to respon against the Bears' coordination. This final game of the night would show Palmieri lead the team in eliminations with 25, Bryan lead the team in damage with 8,676, and Betz led in healing with 10,769.
