Last Thursday Smash Bros. played in their final game of the NACE regular season against Aquinas College. They moved into the final week with a record of 3-3, hoping to finish the season with a positive record. They succeeded, winning the series with a 2-0 sweep.
Match one of the series started off with a trade back and forth with the Saints, earning a 9-10 stock lead. This is when Simon Rhodes (gamertag: BIRD_) comes in and takes stock after stock. When Aquinas's final player took him out, he had claimed 7 stocks, giving the Bears a 6-3 lead. Noah Dean (gamertag: King) followed Rhodes and finished the match winning 5-0, going up 1-0 in the series.
Match two starts with Brett Worthington (gamertag: Sad Sponge) opening for the Bears again. He gets the opportunity for a rematch against the player who he struggled against historically. This time, Worthington came out on top, and gave the Bears a 9-8 lead. The Bears then trade stock for stock until Ethan Knouff (gamertag: Strakh) takes the field and builds the Bears a 3-1 stock lead. That is when the Bears anchor Micheal Clark (gamertag: Smooglegad) did what he does best and secures the win 2-0, the Bears win the series 2-0. Knouff and Worthington both took the most stocks with 4 each.
With this SSU Smash Bros. finishes their NACE season with a 4-3 record. This mostly fresh squad finished in good standing with their positive season record. With this experience, they begin to prepare for the NACE spring season.
