Smash Bros. Falls to Ashland

Last Thursday, the Bears Smash Bros. squad went up against the University of Ashland in the NACE. This match up was the closest one the Bears played so far this season. All three games came down to the teams' last players, but the Bears fell to Ashland 1 - 2.

Game one both teams involved learning their opponents and finding weaknesses. Both sides removed stocks off each other evenly until they got to their final players. Michael Clark (gamertag: Smooglegad) found himself in a 1-3 situation as the team's anchor. Unfortunately, he lost, granting Ashland the first game 0-3. Ethan Knouff (gamertag: Strakh) had the highest streak of 3 and the most stocks taken for game one.

Game two was a lot harder game for the Bears, who went down to a 3-7 stock deficit. This is a comfort zone for Clark, an all-too-common occurrence. He managed to take all the remaining stocks from Ashland. The nail biting second game went as far as a last-hit last-stock scenario where he came out on top. This kept the Bears in the match and evened the score at 1-1. Clark had the largest streak, and most stocks taken at 7.

Game three was a close repeat to game number one with both squads trading back-and-forth until reaching the last players available. Knouff found himself in a small deficit 2-3 and he battled hard but was unable to find his footing resulting in the Bears losing game three 0-3 and losing the series 1-2.

The next match for Smash Bros. will be Thursday October 19th at 7:00 PM against Aquinas College.
