Overwatch Ends ABC Tournament

This past weekend, the SSU Overwatch 2 team played in the final weekend of the ABC Collegiate Homecoming Tournament. They played against Arizona State University in a close five match series where the Bears won 3-2. Then their last game of the tournament was against Texas Tech University where they fell 1-3. They ended the tournament 5-5.

Shawnee State University VS Arizona State University, 3-2 W

Map one of the initial match was on Oasis, where the Bears came out of the gates fast. Trading blows back-and-forth, the Bears came out on top 2-1 to take an early lead. Elimination leaders for the Bears were Zach Smith (gamertag: Zsmitty2020) with 32 and Gavin Jones (gamertag: Zephyr) with 30. Support Zach Evans (gamertag: Deizl) had the highest healing with 15,686.

Map two was on Eichenwalde, where the Bears stopped Arizona from taking a single point before getting a point of their own. Closing this map out in dominating fashion and winning 1-0, they were one game away from taking the series.

Map three was on Suravasa, where the Bears and Arizona fought a back-and-forth map. By the end of the map Arizona had stopped the sweep, with the Bears falling 2-3. Evans and Jordan Bryan (gamertag: Sivis) both had 30 eliminations. Evans also had 20,295 healing-- the highest in the match by over 8,000.

Map four was on Esperanca, a push map that once again saw the Bears on the back foot. Unable to stop the push, they fall 1-0 and are sent to match point. Elimination leaders were Bryan and Jones with 9 each.

Map five of the series was on Circuit Royal and with the pressure of avoiding a reverse sweep, the Bears start strong. On attack they rolled through Arizona, getting a full capture to secure an early lead. On the defense, the Bears held Arizona to two points, winning the map and the series with a score of 3-2. Bryan led the Bears with 37 eliminations followed by Jones with 36. Bryan also mitigated 20,690 damage.

Shawnee State University VS Texas Tech 1 – 3 L

Map one took the teams to the map Antarctic Peninsula where the Bears started off rough, getting swept 0-2. Smith would lead the team in both eliminations, with 15, and damage, with 9,100. Evans would lead the team in healing with 11,252.

Map two saw the Bears breathe some life in the match by taking a close Eichenwalde map with a score of 3-2. In this victory, Bryan would lead the Bears in eliminations at 33 while Smith led in damage at 11,652. Evans would once again lead the Bears in healing with 13,552. Map 3 featured a quiet showing for the Bears with a swift 1-3 defeat on Suravasa.

The final map of the Homecoming Tournament for the Bears took place on New Queen Street. This game would show the Bears have a relatively quick game as TTU took the game 0-1 and snatched the overall series. Both Jones and Bryan would lead the Bears in eliminations at 15 while Bryan would also lead in damage with 9,684. For the final time of the thournament, Evans would lead the team in healing with 12,136.
