Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Bears Split First Two Matches

The Bears Volleyball team traveled to Marian University to participate in the Knight Invitational. They would play Roosevelt University in the first game of the afternoon taking the game five sets with the Bears coming out on top. In the second game, Shawnee State would face Indiana University East, falling in straight sets.

Game 1

Shawnee State would face the Lakers of Roosevelt University. The first set would be a back-and-forth game until the very end, where RU would take it 25-19. In the second set, Shawnee would gain a six-point lead with Roosevelt taking a timeout, then going on a six-point run of their own to tie the match at 14. The Bears would get the best of the Lakers in this match, tying the game at one. The third and fourth sets nearly mimicked the two sets before, with both teams not giving up till the end, meaning these teams would begin the battle to 15. As you would imagine, the fifth set was incredibly close, but the Bears would come out with a 3-2 victory.

52 total kills for the Bears

Macie Rhoads had 20 kills

Emilee Cochran had 23 digs

Game 2

SSU would take on the Red Wolves of IU East. Early on would look like it was going to repeat the first match with the back-and-forth nature of the game. IU East would find points in the match where they would only allow Shawnee to get one point. Then they would score two or three points and keep that gap through the remainder of the game. Set two would have a similar start, the Bears and Red Wolves battling for each point, trying to gain a lead. Shawnee would run out of time in this set as well as the Red Wolves got hot towards the end of the set. SSU would get an early lead in the third set as the Bears would take advantage of errors by the Wolves while also getting hot. The air would get turned on in the building, cooling the Bears down through the match. The Red Wolves would take advantage of that and beat the Bears in straight sets.
