SSU Super Smash Bros. Ultimate became the champion of their NACE conference after an exciting 2-1 rematch win over Manchester on Sunday. This win secures them a spot in the NACE league playoffs beginning November 17.
Benjamin Moushey (gamertag: Waywardness) led the squad as Zelda, earning an easy four stocks to gain the lead. This included a decisive first three stocks against the opposing Villager, who had proven difficult for the unit in their first match two weeks before. Following Moushey was teammate Christopher Mowery (gamertag: Spaceminer) on Toon Link. The freshman claimed four stocks of his own before falling. Dustin Simpkins (gamertag: Breadlofe) brought his Roy in next, claiming one stock to maintain the momentum. Mark Schueler (gamertag: Atlas) came in as Pac Man in hopes of ending the first game in a win. Unfortunately, he was unable to secure the win, claiming two of the three needed stocks, and Manchester earned a 0 – 1 win to go up in the series.
Game two saw a fresh start for the squad, once again led by Moushey's Zelda. The senior nabbed two stocks before handing off to Mowery once more. The Toon Link player claimed another five stocks to take the lead. Next in was Desmond Craft (gamertag: EchoForce) who brought in Joker to continue the lead. He managed to claim two stocks before falling. Schueler once again anchored the SSU lineup, claiming an exciting three stocks to tie the match and earn the game win 2-0
The final game was an exciting run for the Bears. Moushey led the charge by claiming two stocks before falling, totaling him seven for the match. Schueler entered the fray for the last time in the match and claimed four more stocks, totaling nine to the senior's credit. This included an exciting play after escaping the opposing Kazuya's combo and regaining momentum to eliminate the Manchester player instead. Mowery cleaned up the win for the Bears as he nabbed the remaining six stocks in an exciting run.
Two players were remaining on deck to take the final player slot and help secure the game three win if needed. Simpkins's total for the match was one stock, and Craft claimed a total of two.
