Friday night, Shawnee State Bears volleyball team was back in action at Waller Gymnasium. They continued their Mid-South Conference action as they welcomed Freed Hardman University.
The game would start in a flash, as the Lions would jump out into an early lead in the first set, but the Bears would make a comeback coming within a point of the FHU lead. The Lions would strike for the next 10 of 13 points closing out the first set. The second set would start, almost like the first, with Freed-Hardman jumping to an early lead. The Bears would attempt to make a comeback, but their time had run short as the Lions would finish the Bears in the second set.
As the third set had started, SSU seemed to have flipped a switch. Shawnee State would jump out to an early lead and fight the rest of the way. With the one-point edge in hand, SSU would score the next two points from a service error from the lions and a block from Nashail Shelby and Alli McQuay. The Bears would not allow FHU to score more than two points in a row for the remainder of the frame. Macie Rhoads would seal the game for SSU as she would have back-to-back kills. The two teams would move to the fourth set continuing the battle all the way to the end. The Lions would get the last say as they would claim the frame and win the game.
Come and support the Bears at 1 p.m. in Waller Gymnasium as they welcome another MSC competitor in Bethel University.
