Tough Tuesday for Esports

On Tuesday, SSU Overwatch and League of Legends opened their NACE seasons with tough losses. Overwatch fell to Edgewood College 0-3 and League of Legends fell short to Toronto Metropolitan University 1-2.

Overwatch vs. Edgewood College: 0-3 L

Map one, Lijiang Tower, showed a hard fight from the Bears. The unit managed to take the second round with only ten seconds left before the Eagles grabbed a map-ending win, thanks to key eliminations from Zach Smith (gamertag: zsmitty2020) on Soldier 76. Unfortunately, they were unable to maintain that momentum and fell.

Map two took the Bears to King's Row, where the unit struggled on their attack run. They managed to take two thirds of the initial objective but were unable to complete it. Notable teamwork between Noah Hall (gamertag: CNNNFDDR) and Benjamin Palmieri (gamertag: Bas1lisk), aided by Hallie Harris (gamertag: Panchiko) allowed the unit to earn their objective time. Unfortunately, the Eagles broke through quickly and handed the Bears another loss. Gavin Jones (gamertag: Zephyr) completed the SSU Overwatch squad for the night.

The final game took the Bears to Monte Carlo, where damage players Smith and Palmieri throve as Sojourn and Widowmaker, respectively. Key eliminations from each player allowed the team to reach nearly halfway through the objective route before slowing their push. They quickly regained their momentum and nearly pushed the objective to the final point. Unfortunately for the Bears, the Eagles broke through the defense and claimed the final map win they needed for a sweep.

SSU Overwatch is back on October 13 with another NACE season match. They will face East Tennessee State at 7:00 PM.

League of Legends vs. Toronto Metropolitan University 1-2 L

This was a hard-fought loss for SSU League of Legends. The unit started off strong, claiming a 42-minute game one win. Notable performances included Zach Farrar (gamertag: Cpt Wiley), who only fell once during the match. He also claimed the most eliminations, with 8 to his credit. Marco Bazaldua (gamertag: icetruck) and Chase Minor (gamertag: ArcticWolf) were team players, assisting in taking out opponents 13 times each.

Game two was a tough loss for the squad, ending after 41 minutes. Topping the board for the Bears once again was Farrar with 13 eliminations, alongside earning 20,856 gold—the most on either team. Top assists went to Bazaldua at 16, who was closely followed by teammates Aaron Allen (gamertag: Turtlestrike) and Ethan Popp (gamertag: LegendaryEtan) who earned 11 assists each.

The final game of the night was a short 21-minute loss where the Bears struggled to get established. Farrar was the highest gold earner among the Bears, with 8,609 to his credit. Allen earned the most elimination on the SSU side with 3. Bazaldua once again brought in the most assists for the team; he was credited with 6.

Bears League of Legends returns on October 13 with a NACE season match against Western Kentucky. Game time is 8:30 PM.
