Knox tied for seventh; Bears sixth following Day 1 of MSC Spring Preview

The men's golf program at Shawnee State claimed a sixth place showing out of 11 teams on the opening day of the Mid-South Conference Spring Preview, with BJ Knox leading the way with a top-10 showing after the first day of competition at Bear Trace Golf Course in Crossville, Tenn.

Knox, who was one of 12 players to shoot under a 75 on the opening day, carded a one-under 73 to tie for seventh with Campbellsville's Justin Brewington.

Behind Knox, four additional Shawnee State players posted rounds under 80, with Steven Zimmerman and Jordan Hughes each posting 77s to finish in a tie for 28th after the opening day. Elijah McCarty rounded out the top four scorers with his 79 while Austin Barta, playing as an individual, also shot a 79 to tie with McCarty for 39th place.

Brett Bentley and Patrick England, who shot an 87 and an 89, respectively, on Day 1, finished in a tie for 62nd and 66th place following the first 18 holes. Bentley is playing as an individual in the event.

Shawnee State will conclude play with the second day of the Mid-South Conference Spring Preview in Crossville Tuesday.
