Following another outstanding week where Macie Rhoads tallied two double-doubles and posted 28 total kills to go along with 43 total digs, the junior outside hitter from Circleville was named as the Mid-South Conference Attacker of the Week for the second consecutive week, the third time this season and the fourth time overall in her career Monday afternoon, according to conference officials.
Rhoads continued her outstanding season on the attack by hitting an outstanding .449 for the week and recording double-doubles in both of her games while inching closer to the 1,000-dig mark for her career.
In both games, Rhoads was the match leader in kills and digs all while upping her career double-double tally to 38 in her 86 career match appearances.
She hit an otherworldly .500 against Thomas More and a strong .381 attack mark against Pikeville, all while also committing one reception error and posting five aces to just one service error to boot. SSU, as a team, only committed three reception errors between the two games while notching 155 digs thanks to Rhoads' efforts on the backline.
Rhoads got rolling in the opening set against Pikeville as the junior posted five of her 12 kills during a massive 14-0 run to close the first set that allowed Shawnee State to take a dominating 25-6 first set win. Holding seven spikes in all after the opening set, Rhoads added in two additional kills over the first eight volleys of the second set of competition, helping Shawnee State maintain and build on its 1-0 set advantage early despite a much stronger UPike effort over the second and third frames of action.
Against Thomas More, Rhoads' swing was on point as the Circleville native posted seven of her 16 kills in the match's opening set to lead SSU to a convincing 14-volley victory in the first frame. She then added another big punch in the third set, notching each of Shawnee State's first four points in the final frame off of kills to help the Bears get rolling offensively.
For her career, Rhoads now has 1,049 kills and 961 digs -- the latter a mark that sits just 39 dives away from 1,000. The junior's four Mid-South Conference Attacker of the Week honors are now just one off of the program best mark of five set by Jami Turrill in 2010. Turrill later became the Mid-South Conference Player of the Year in that same season and was inducted into the Shawnee State Hall of Fame in 2020.
