Tennis Ends Season at Mid-South Conference Tournament

Bowling Green, Ky. – Men's and Women's tennis competed in the Mid-South Conference tournament on Thursday. The men would draw Lindsey Wilson and would lose 5-0 in a rain shortened match, women would draw Georgetown losing 5-0 as well.

In doubles for men the teams of Jacob Freeland (FR/Marietta, Ohio)/Austin Hanshaw (FR/Chapmanville, West Virginia), Zack Fox (FR/Bow Mar, Colorado)/Zach Colley (JR/Portsmouth, Ohio), and Samuel Hall (SO/West Jefferson, Ohio)/Niko Richards (FR/Stockbridge, Georgia) would all face similar fates falling 8-0.

In singles Jacob Freeland would faceoff with Erazo in a battle of 1's. Erazo would take the first set 6-0, but that was all that could be played between the two as weather shortened the match. Zack Fox would take on Almeida and would trail 5-2 before play was suspended. SSU would go on to lose 5-0.

The Lady Bears faced off with Georgetown where they would also have multiple matches shortened due to the weather. In doubles Claire Carruthers (FR/Clarksville, Ohio) and Molly Stockton (FR/Cincinnati, Ohio) were the only pair who would take a game over the tigers falling in the 2 matchup 8-1.

In singles Shelby Hay (JR/Louisa, Kentucky) would take on Ferguson of Georgetown losing the first set 6-1, play was suspended on the second set. In a 4's match Caleigh O'Neal (SR/Greenup, Kentucky) for Shawnee would fall to Kauffman 6-0, 6-0. Shawnee would go on to lose 5-0.

Shawnee will see two seniors leave the program on the women's side with Michaela Garner (SR/Hebron, Ohio) and Caleigh O'Neal. Shawnee State's men's team finishes the season with a 5-12 record. SSU's women finish the 2018-19 season with a 2-17 record.
