Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State volleyball dropped a home match on Monday night, falling to No. 6 Lindsey Wilson 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-17) at Waller Gymnasium.
The Bears and Blue Raiders would trade points early in the first set, playing to an early 5-5 tie. Lindsey Wilson would then score six straight points to go up 11-5, then after SSU broke the run would score three straight to go up 14-6. SSU would score two points to cut the lead to six points, but the Blue Raiders would again go on a run, scoring seven straight points for a 21-8 lead. SSU would be unable to get back into the set, and a Paulina Sobolewska kill would give Lindsey Wilson a 25-11 win in the first set.
Lindsey Wilson would begin the second set by scoring seven straight points, and would end up going up 11-1. Shawnee State would play point-for-point in the middle portion of the set, but were doomed by the poor start. Lindsey Wilson won six of the final eight points of the set, and Lilo Larzelere would get an ace to end the second set in a 25-12 Lindsey Wilson win.
Shawnee State would again fall behind early in the third set, trailing the Blue Raiders 7-3. However, seven straight points for the Bears would put SSU up 9-7, with Tyanna Smith (SR/Bowling Green, Ohio) leading the way with a pair of kills during the run. SSU would keep ahead until five straight points from Lindsey Wilson put the Blue Raiders back up 14-11, a lead that would stand. Lindsey Wilson managed to hold off SSU from there, and an ace by Klara Mikelova gave the Blue Raiders a 25-17 win in the third set and a 3-0 win in the match.
Macie Rhoads (FR/Circleville, Ohio) led Shawnee State with seven kills. Emily Cooper (FR/Hamersville, Ohio) had 12 assists, and Stacia Martin (JR/Indianapolis, Indiana) led SSU with 16 digs.
Grace Blomstedt, Klara Mikelova and Sarah Cruz each had nine kills for Lindsey Wilson. Autumn Proctor had 29 assists, and Lilo Larzelere had 13 digs for the Blue Raiders.
Shawnee State volleyball returns to action for their annual Pink Out game on Tuesday, October 23 when they welcome Pikeville to Waller Gymnasium. First serve is at 6:00pm.
