Volleyball falls to Lindsey Wilson in Homecoming Opener

Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State volleyball fell in the first game of Homecoming Weekend on Friday night, losing 3-0 to #3 Lindsey Wilson.

The Bears trailed the whole way in the first two sets, with the Blue Raiders dominant early. SSU lost set one 25-8 and set two 25-10, with Lindsey Wilson's attack too much for the Shawnee State block and back line.

Shawnee State would fight back in the third after falling behind early 8-4. A pair of Lindsey Wilson attack errors by Lexie Hamrick and kills from Tyanna Smith (JR/Bowling Green, Ohio) would tie up the score at 8-8. The Bears would keep it close for a few points, but would again fall prey to Lindsey Wilson's stellar attack as the Blue Raiders were able to pull away late, 25-16.

Tyanna Smith led Shawnee State with eight kills on the evening. The balanced Lindsey Wilson attack was led by Paulina Sobolewska, who had 12 kills.

The loss drops Shawnee State to 5-8 on the year, with the Bears also dropping their Mid-South Conference opener to fall to 0-1 in the league. Lindsey Wilson, ranked third in the latest NAIA Coaches' Poll, stayed perfect at 12-0, with a 4-0 record in the conference.

Shawnee State return to action on Saturday, September 16 when they play Pikeville in their second game of Homecoming Weekend. First serve is set for 4:00pm.
