Three Set Sweep Dooms Bears

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (Volleyball) – Shawnee State struggles against Cumberland University falling in three sets in a conference matchup Saturday afternoon.

Shawnee State University struggled to find a rhythm early dropping the opening set 25-16, the struggles continued as were only able to record nine points in the second set, losing 25-9. The Bears tried to regroup in the final set, but were unable to complete the comeback falling in the third and final set 25-23 on Saturday afternoon at Frank & Janis Waller Gymnasium.

Lauren Helbig (SR/Mansfield, Ohio) led the Bears with nine kills, while Brianna Wiget (JR/Piketon, Ohio) added six. Deanna Smith (JR/Riverview, MI) posted 22 assists in the match, while Rhyanna Day (SR/Beaver, Ohio) had a team-high 20 digs, while Madison Knopp added 10.

The Bears record moves to 2-10 overall and 0-3 in Mid-South Conference Play. The team returns home this Thursday, September 15th, where they will take on Asbury University at Frank & Janis Waller Gymnasium. The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 pm.
