Portsmouth, Ohio – Lauren Helbig (SR/Mansfield, Ohio) has been named a second team All-Mid-South Conference honoree for the 2016 season.
Helbig, a senior from Mansfield, Ohio, had a massive year for the Bears. She has averaged 3.6 kills per set, and is hitting .281 on the season, good for third and fifth in the Mid-South Conference in those categories. Helbig has played in every set of every match this season, the only Bears player to do so this year.
Helbig eclipsed 20 kills in a match four times this season. Her first came on August 20th against Point Park (Penn.), when she had 22 kills and hit .500 in four sets. Two matches later, on August 21st, she had 22 kills against Montreat (N.C.). Her third 20 kill match was against IU-East on September 3rd, and she had a season-high 23 kills against Rio Grande on senior night October 20th.
Helbig's 385 kills are a career high. She passed 1,000 kills for her career this season in addition to the career high.
Helbig and the Bears are back in action on Thursday, November 10th when they take on Lindsey Wilson in the Mid-South Conference Tournament. First serve is scheduled for 1:00pm Eastern.
