Bears drop Mid-South matchup with No. 8 Lindsey Wilson

COLUMBIA, Ky. (Volleyball) – The Shawnee State volleyball team hit just .083 against No. 8 Lindsey Wilson College en route to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Blue Raiders in a Mid-South Conference matchup on Friday night at Biggers Sports Center.

Kristi Humble (SR/West Jefferson, Ohio) and Paige Zelich (SR/Grove City, Ohio) led the way for the Bears with six kills apiece. Humble was the lone Bear to hit above .300, notching an impressive .600 attack percentage with no errors.

Shawnee State fell behind early in the opening frame, trailing by as many as 12 at a 15-3 deficit. SSU fought back to cut the LWC lead to six at 21-15, but could not overcome the early onslaught.

The Bears held their own in the early going of the second set, keeping the match close to a 10-10 score. The Blue Raiders answered with a 4-1 run to vault ahead 14-11, a lead the home squad would never relinquish. Lindsey Wilson closed the set with a kill from Catie Cline to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

Lindsey Wilson controlled the third and final set from the outset, jumping out to a 9-4 advantage. The lead would never dip below six points for the entirety of the set, as the Blue Raiders finished the match with a 25-14 victory.

Shawnee State now faces a quick turnaround, with another MSC competition with a road match against Cumberland University. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m. CT.
