Volleyball Topped by No. 15 Lindsey Wilson, 3-0

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Volleyball fell in straight sets on the road Saturday afternoon at No. 15 Lindsey Wilson. The Bears (4-3, 1-2 MSC) just could not seem to find an answer for the high-powered Blue Raiders' (13-0, 4-0 MSC) offense as Lindsey Wilson hit over .350 in the final two games to remain unbeaten through 13 matches.

The Bears closest set of the day came in the opening set when they fell 25-18. In that opening game, the Bears limited Lindsey Wilson to a .132 hitting percentage but the Blue Raiders' defense limited SSU to just nine kills and forced six attack errors to jump out to the quick 1-0 lead.

The Bears would improve their hitting percentage in each successive game but the Lindsey Wilson attack really got rolling in the second and third games as they racked up 31 kills against just three attack errors during those final two games. In the third and final game, the Bears were tied at 12-all just shy of the midway point. However, the Blue Raiders would take 12 of the next 14 points to run away with the match.

Defensively, Carly Mazza did her best to slow down the LWC attack with a team-high 15 digs while Madison Smith added 11 more for the match. As a team, the Bears blocked LWC a total of just three times the entire match. Devan Scarberry was the only Bear with multiple blocks as she recorded a pair of block assists.

On the attack, Tiffany Jackson and Paige Zelich led SSU with eight kills each over the entire match. Kristi Humble also added six more attacks while no other Bears player would finish with more than four. Bonnie Huesing and Hannah Gephart each finished the match with 10 assists. Gephart also finished the match with the team's only service ace of the day.

Volleyball will be back on the road this Monday as it travels to the University of the Cumberlands for another MSC battle. That match will get started at 6 p.m. and precede a busy next weekend which will see the Bears play five matches in three days.
