The Shawnee State men's soccer team welcomed the Cougars from Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Wednesday night for a tight game that ended 3-1 for the Cougars.
From the kick-off, it was clear that it would be an exciting game between the Bears and the Cougars. Guillermo Conejo had the first shot for the Bears in minute six, but this would be saved by Bram Stolp, keeper for the Cougars. Mount Vernon woke up after Guillermo's shot, and counterattacked successfully, scoring the first goal of the game in minute seven by Aaron Jolly. For the first half, the Bears would have one shot, two saves by Eric Green, and two corners. The Cougars would lead the stats for the first half with six shots, one save by Bram Stolp, and four corner kicks. The first half would end 1-0 for Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
The second half started, and the Cougars would have a great start with an early goal in minute 46 by Keon Boney. In minute 61, the Cougars added one last goal, scored by number 12 Nathan Parker. Two yellow cards would be given to Shawnee State players Nikos Pontikis and Joao Toledo. Shawnee State would have opportunities to reduce the goal difference, and their first goal would come in minute 79 by the captain Matheus Camargo. The Bears finished the game with four shots, seven saves, and five corners, while the Cougars had fourteen shots, two saves, and seven corners. The game would end 3-1 for the Cougars.
The Shawnee State Bears will be on the road next Sunday, September 10th, to face the Phoenix from Cumberland University.
